A GLANCE OF BOGOR

Bogor - West Java is located about 54 km south of Jakarta . Famous as The “Rainy city”, the town has been establish for 525 years since Prabu Siliwangi, the famous King of Padjajaran Kingdom – The missing kingdom, was crowned.
Bogor located at 106°43'30”BT - 106°51'00”BT dan 30'30”LS – 6°41'00”LS , the elevation is 190 meter to 350 meter above sea level. The town is surrounded by mountains, i.e.: Mt. Salak , Mt.Gede, Mt.Pangrango and lots of hills.
Bogor is also famous as the center for education and research. Here, many research institutions and so does Bogor Agricultural university has been establish since the 19th .	Bogor Location

HISTORY


In the 5th century, The first Hindhu kingdom “TARUMANAGARA” was established in Bogor , Follow by the famous Pajajaran Kingdom , the last Hindhu kingdom in Java. Therefore lots of “Prasasti” or monument about the past kingdom can be found around the town, such as “ Tarumanagera Prasasti”, “ Prabu Surawasesa Prasasti” etc.
In 1744 , Governor Gustaaf Willem baron van Imhoff was being impressed by the peaceful and beautiful scenery of Bogor . In 1745 he merged 9 districs ( Cisarua , Pondok Gede, Ciawi , Ciomas , Cijeruk , Sindang Barang, Balubur, Dramaga dan Kampung Baru) to become Regentschap Kampung Baru Buitenzorg. Van Imhoff also build a castle (istana) within the area, called as “Istana Bogor”. After that, the Peak area ( Puncak ), Telaga Warna, Megamendung , Ciliwung, Muara Cihideung, Mt. Salak , dan Mt. Gede also become part of Buitenzorg, the former name of Bogor.
Indeed, under The British colonialism, Governor Raffles established a Botanical garden nearby the castle, that famous as “ Bogor Botanical garden ”.
